Over the past weekend, over 3,500 swimmers competed in the 2018 Southwest Ohio Swimming Classic. This meet is the nation’s largest and takes place across ten different preliminary sites.
The Butler Aviators have several swimmers who participated and placed in the top 16 advancing them to compete at finals.
Senior Sydney Baker placed 1st in the girls’ 50 Breaststroke with a time of 32.08.
Junior Abbey Burton set a new Butler High School record with a 1st place finish in the girls’ 100 Individual Medley; time 1:04.33. She also placed 2nd in the 50 Butterfly, time 27.96; 7th in the 50 Backstroke, time 29.73; and 10th place in the 50 Breaststroke, time 33.92.
Seniors Brendan Shanahan and Colin Wolfe, along with junior Jacob Staley and sophomore Adam Gunckel placed 11th with a time of 1:30.55 in the boys’ 200 Freestyle Relay. This foursome also placed 15th in the Boys 200 Medley Relay, time 1:45.41, and 14th place in the 400 Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:22.97.

The Aviator swim teams’ next meet will be Friday, Jan. 19, at Miami University against Talawanda. The event begins at 6:30 p.m.
