The Butler varsity girls’ basketball team celebrates their win over the Sidney Yellowjackets. Butler defeated Sidney 55-41.
The Wednesday night game against the Yellowjackets was the final home game for the girls this season. It was also Senior Night for the Aviators.
Senior Night is a chance to celebrate the team’s senior players. This year the Aviators celebrate Brittney Petrosky, Oliva Schoenherr, Zoie Franklin, and Madison Norman.
“The four seniors are going to be missed tremendously. They each bring something unique and positive to the team,” Head Coach Molly Bardonaro said.
Sidney is a tough team to beat, and during the game, it took the Aviator’s solid defense to get the job done. With defensive momentum, Butler was able to intensify their offense.
“We pride ourselves on our defense, holding teams on average to only 36 ppg,” Bardonaro said.
The Aviators are ranked 2nd in the GWOC conference for defense.
Leading the Aviators to victory was junior Willow Knight with 17 points, 5 assists, and 4 steals.
Also adding to the score was Petrosky with 13 points, sophomore Tyree Fletcher with 8 points, Schoenherr with 7 points, sophomore Abbie Schoenherr with 5 points, and junior Natalie Maurer with 5 points. As a team, the Aviators had 17 assists and 16 steals.
With a record of 16-5 in conference play, the Aviators, along with the Yellowjackets, are in 2nd place in their division.
Butler’s final game will be Saturday, Feb. 11 at Tipp City. Tipp City is ranked number one in the division and is currently undefeated. The varsity game will begin at 7:30 p.m.
