The Butler girls’ varsity basketball team outscored its opponent three-fourths of last night’s game, giving them enough for a win. Wednesday, Dec. 28, the Aviators beat the Oakwood Lumberjacks 38-32 at home.
During the first quarter, Butler scored 13 points to Oakwood’s six. The Aviators then scored an additional seven points in the second quarter; the Lumberjacks scored only four.
At the half, the score was 20-10, Butler.
The Aviators came out and continued to outscore Oakwood 8-7 in the third quarter.
During the fourth quarter, it was the Lumberjacks who outscored the Aviators by five points, 15-10. However, this was not enough to put the Lumberjacks on top.
Leading the Aviators to victory was junior Willow Knight and senior Olivia Schoenherr. Combined they scored 23 of the 38 points, Knight with 12, and Schoenherr with 11.
Also, contributing was sophomore Abbie Schoenherr with eight points, sophomore Tyree Flecher with four points, sophomore Alyssa Burley with two points, and junior Natalie Maurer with one point.
The Aviators move to 6-4 for the season. Their next game will be Monday, Jan. 2 in the SAC against Graham Local Schools.
